Registration Fees

The cost to register your runner is $59, up until April 24th and then the price will increase to $69. If your child has participated in the Landsharks previously and still has their lime green t-shirt then another one will not need to be purchased. However, if you are a new runner or need a replacement t-shirt the price is $15. 


Runner Transportation Procedure

Kindergarten - 3rd Grade

The full day kindergarteners will be transported to the main Vanguard K-3 building's multipurpose room. Once attendance for all the K-3 Landsharks is completed we will all walk down to the Vanguard High School campus where practices will be held. 

Grades 4th - 6th

The 4th-6th graders will meet at the basketball court outside "The Box" on the Corona Campus.  Then we will walk to the high school for all our practices.  Get ready to RUN!!!

Each week she will send out an email regarding practices and meets. 

Practice Days

Tuesdays and Thursdays

There will be no practices on the Tuesdays after meets (April 30th, May 7th and May 14th). 

Unfortunately on days when the weather is not suitable for running there will be no practice held. Due to all practices being held outdoors. On such days we will inform all parents/guardians no later than 2pm. 

Preparation for Practice

Be sure that your runner has proper attire for practice! This includes good running shoes, their landsharks t-shirt, shorts/ pants and a light jacket (as the Colorado weather can change rapidly).

Pack them a water bottle and a snack they can eat before practice begins. 

Sunscreen that the runners can apply before each practice. 

Practice Times

3:45-4:45 pm

All students will be safely transported after school from their classrooms to the Vanguard High School campus for practice. 

Practice Pickup

All of the runners will be picked up from the Vanguard High School campus in the parking lot by the track and the dome building. This parking lot is found past the main parking lot via a one way road. 

Weekly Updates

Each week we will focus on a different aspect that contributes to building athletes of character. These traits go hand in hand with the moral development that Vanguard embodies.

Additionally, a runner that exemplifies these traits during practices and meets will be celebrated as our runner of the week!! This includes their picture and an exert of their accomplishments appearing on the homepage. 

Week One: Goal Setting & Responsibility

Goal Setting: Strive for personal improvement at each race.  Implement the SMART principles (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Timely) when constructing goals. 

Responsibility: Fuel your body everyday, hydrate and get enough sleep. 
Take care of your surroundings. 
Come to practice prepared. 
Set personal goals and strive for personal improvement. 
Be good stewards of your environment. 

Week Two: Be a Good Teammate

Be a Good Teammate: Encourage others.
Listen to coaches.
Set a good example and participate with a cheerful attitude. 
Help others in need.

Week Three: Race Etiquette

Race Etiquette: Use kind and positive words. 
Do not push at the start. 
Stay in your lane.
Do not cut off someone trying to pass you. 

Week Four: Courage

Courage: Try new things. 
Make new friends.
Make good choices.
Do not give up! 

Week Five: Respect & Integrity

Respect: Be grateful- thank the volunteers and your parents.
Treat others as you want to be treated.
Have a positive attitude.
Be a good friend.

Integrity: Give 100% and do your best everyday.
Do the right thing, even when no one is watching.
Do not cut corners. 
Be honest.

Races to be held at Harrison High School on Sundays at 3:00 pm
April 28th
May 5th
May 12th

Race Schedule

Race #1: All Runner’s will race the 50m run, followed by their choice of a 400m OR an 800m run.

Race #2: All Runner’s will race the 100m run, followed by their choice of a 400m OR an 800m run.

Race #3: All Runner’s will race the 200m run, followed by their choice of a 400m OR an 1600m run.

The Kindergarteners and 1st graders are suggested to complete the 400m races. The 2nd-6th graders will compete in the races that are the most suitable to their abilities, yet are still challenging. 

Weather policies

Landsharks Lightning Policy


1.    We will monitor the weather via the Weather Bug App with Spark Function. 

2.   Activities shall be immediately suspended and all personnel directed to move to a safe area when the meter indicates lightning is within a 10-mile radius.  Activities shall remain suspended until the device indicates there is no longer lightning within a 10-mile radius.

3.   If the device fails or connectivity is poor, we will suspend activity when cloud-to-ground lightning is observed OR thunder is heard.  We will quickly direct staff, participants and athletes to pre-determined shelter(s).

4.   Once the practice/race has been suspended, we will wait at least 30 minutes after the last thunder or flash of lightning is witnessed, prior to resuming.

5.   Any subsequent thunder or lightning, after the beginning of the 30-minute count, reset the clock and another 30-minute count should begin.

6.   Please share the safety plan with others picking up your athlete.

7.   Understand the evacuation process depending on the site lay out. 

Parent Guidelines

In order to create a safe environment for our Landshark runners and families, please adhere to the following guidelines for our races. These guidelines are in place to help keep our races organized and fun for the kids and parents.

 Spring Season

 Please park in designated areas only.

  1. Upon arrival, please locate your runner(s) school coach to receive race bib and then parents must proceed to designated spectator viewing area.  The only adults allowed on in the infield are coaches and/or volunteers with a Landsharks' T-shirt.
  2. Exchange runners should check-in with the Site Director, who is in the Tie-dye or Bright yellow T-shirt.  Your runner will receive their bib at that time.  All runners are required to have a bib prior to racing.  Bibs should be pinned on the back of the runners' shirt for ease of removal in the finish chute.
  3. Each race night all runners can run two races.  A sprint followed by a mid-distance race.
  4. No parents or non-competing runners are allowed on the track with the runners.
  5. Following your runner's race, your child will find you in the designated parent viewing area.  You are free to stay and watch the remainder of the races or depart if so desired.
  6. Have fun and cheer for all runners because, “Finishing is Winning!”
