Letter from the Coach:

My name is Tia Blachowski, and I will be leading the new Spinner Sharks Landsharks team this season. We are excited to welcome young runners from schools in the Ford Frick Park area to have fun, develop running skills, and achieve personal goals together. As head coach, I am thrilled to be a part of the positive culture the Landsharks organization contributes to our Colorado Springs athletic community. With over a decade of professional coaching and sports medicine experience, I am excited to work with an organization that has helped the inclusive development of hundreds of thousands of young athletes. Getting started in athletics with positive and healthy experiences can help children build powerful lifelong skills. Successes with team settings, leadership, and personal physical goals all contribute to the self efficacy and self esteem children use to develop independence and intrinsic motivation. Finding empowerment in athletic environments at a young age can prevent negative associations with physical activity and can lead to healthier, more active lifestyles later in life. My husband, Nick, and I are fortunate for our own son to benefit from the safe, empowering dynamic modeled by Landsharks ethics. I look forward to your kiddo learning and growing as a runner under my assistant coach, Skye Ciccarelli, who is not only a wonderful coaching professional but also an accomplished track and field athlete. It's hard to believe summer is almost over, but our Landsharks fall season is fast approaching! This season's team parent meeting will occur after our first practice on Wednesday, September 13th at 5:15pm to answer any questions and clarify details about our season. Practices will be every Wednesday and Friday from 4:30pm-5:15pm at [Ford Frick Park] with our last practice being a team celebration running day on Wednesday October 11th. Participants will be dropped off and picked up near the main parking lot beside the swingsets. Running meets will be at Challenger Middle School, 1pm on Sundays: September 24th, October 1st, October 8th, 2023. Registration is now open, and we are excited to share an excellent season together!

Meet Guidelines

In order to create a safe environment for our Landshark runners and families, please adhere to the following guidelines for our races. These guidelines are in place to help keep our races organized and fun for the kids and parents.

  1. Please park in designated areas only.
  2. Upon arrival, please locate your runner(s) school coach and then parents must be in the designated spectator viewing area(s).  The only adults allowed on the race course are coaches or volunteers with a Landsharks' T-shirt.
  3. Exchange runners should check-in with the Site Director, who is in the Tie-dye or Bright yellow T-shirt.  Your runner will receive their bib at that time.  All runners are required to have a bib prior to racing.  Bibs should be pinned on the back of the runners' shirt for ease of removal in the finish chute.
  4. Each race night all runners run ONLY one race of their choice with their age group.
  5. Please for the safety of ALL athletes No parents on the race course.  There will be coaches on the course with the runners as well as designated volunteers to help keep all runners safe.
  6. Following your runner's race, your child will find you in the designated spectator viewing area.  You are free to stay and watch the remainder of the races or depart if so desired.
  7. Have fun and cheer for all runners because, “Finishing is Winning!”
