Practice Information

Runners will leave their backpacks by the basketball court fence. We will begin practice with some fun warm-ups, followed by a game or two in order to get the energy flowing.  We then break runners into grade levels for individualized games, skills, and drills, and finish with a cool down before dismissing runners to their classes.

Please ensure your child has a labeled water bottle for each practice and comes with sunscreen already applied!

Practices are cancelled if the wind chill is under 20 degrees, and/or if it is physically snowing or raining. Please look for an email

Dress for Success:  Runners need to dress according to the weather and in comfortable clothes.

55 degrees and warmer - Running shoes, t-shirt, shorts.

45-54 degrees - Running shoes, t-shirt, sweatshirt/windbreaker, shorts or sweat pants.

44 degrees and cooler - Running shoes, t-shirt, sweatshirt/windbreaker, sweat pants, consider head band and gloves.  If it is windy, dress one cooler level down.

Running shoes:  We encourage you to purchase quality running shoes for your runner(s).  Please check your child’s current running shoes for wear.  Buy them a little large, not tight.

WEATHER POLICIES

Landsharks Lightning Policy

1. We will monitor the weather via the Weather Bug App with Spark Function.

2.  Activities shall be immediately suspended, and all personnel directed to move to a safe area when the meter indicates lightning is within an 8-mile radius.

3. If the device fails or connectivity is poor, we will suspend activity when cloud-to-ground lightning is observed OR thunder is heard.  We will quickly direct staff, participants and athletes to pre-determined shelter(s).

4. Once the practice/race has been suspended, please look out for communication from your coach as to where immediate pick up will occur.

5. Please share the safety plan with others picking up your athlete.

6. Understand the evacuation process depending on the site layout.

7. Please look for communication from your coach regarding a possible makeup practice/meet.

Cold Weather Policy

It is important to note that the following guidelines for activity apply only in the absence of rain and/or snow.  Rain/snow in conjunction with low temperatures and wind can make conditions unsafe. Therefore, in weather conditions involving rain/snow, the decisions about participation restrictions will be made by the coach or site director

Facility and field regulations will take precedence overstated rules. It is the responsibility of the on-site coach or site director to monitor the weather conditions. The coach/site director will utilize the WeatherBug®,  mobile app, or equivalent resource which provides live and forecast data on weather conditions and temperatures.

Cold weather recommendations:

  • Outside participation limited to 45 minutes – Temperature or wind chill, whichever is lower, reaches 25˚F. If precipitation is present, the time on the field may need to be modified or suspended when taking into consideration the effects of precipitation in cold temperatures.
  • Termination of outside participation – Temperature or wind chill, whichever is lower, reaches 18˚F.

Meet Guidelines

In order to create a safe environment for our Landshark runners and families, please adhere to the following guidelines for our races. These guidelines are in place to help keep our races organized and fun for the kids and parents.

  1. Please park in designated areas only.
  2. Upon arrival, please locate your runner(s) school coach and then parents must be in the designated spectator viewing area(s).  The only adults allowed on the race course are coaches or volunteers with a Landsharks' T-shirt.
  3. Exchange runners should check-in with the Site Director, who is in the Tie-dye or Bright yellow T-shirt.  Your runner will receive their bib at that time.  All runners are required to have a bib prior to racing.  Bibs should be pinned on the back of the runners' shirt for ease of removal in the finish chute.
  4. Each race night all runners run ONLY one race of their choice with their age group.
  5. Please for the safety of ALL athletes No parents on the race course.  There will be coaches on the course with the runners as well as designated volunteers to help keep all runners safe.
  6. Following your runner's race, your child will find you in the designated spectator viewing area.  You are free to stay and watch the remainder of the races or depart if so desired.
  7. Have fun and cheer for all runners because, “Finishing is Winning!”

THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO FOR OUR COMMUNITY!
